Ground Elder is a perennial plant in the carrot family, known for its aggressive growth and spreading habit. It has green, toothed leaves that resemble those of elder trees, and produces small, white, umbrella-shaped flower clusters. Though considered invasive in gardens, the plant is edible and was historically used as a medicinal herb.
Ground Elder thrives in shady, damp areas such as woodlands, hedgerows, and gardens, often forming dense colonies.
Ground Elder can be invasive, spreading rapidly via underground rhizomes and difficult to control once established. Not known to be toxic.
