Rowan Berries

Rowan berries are bright red fruits produced by the rowan tree. Although bitter and inedible raw, they are often used in jellies, wines, and preserves after cooking, and are known for their high vitamin C content.
Rowan trees are commonly found in woodlands, uplands, and along hedgerows across the UK. They thrive in well-drained soils and can tolerate cold climates, often growing in higher elevations.
Rowan berries are mildly toxic if consumed raw, causing stomach discomfort. Cooking the berries eliminates the toxins, making them safe to consume.
