Maple trees are known for their distinctive lobed leaves and winged seeds, commonly called "helicopters" or "samaras." While primarily grown for ornamental purposes and syrup production, some species produce seeds that are edible when properly prepared.
Found in woodlands, parks, and streets across the UK. Prefers temperate climates with moist, well-drained soils. Common in both urban and rural areas.
While most maple seeds are harmless, some species may have mildly toxic compounds. Ensure proper identification before consuming. Maple trees can also produce allergenic pollen in spring.
