Linden

Tilia

Description

Linden, also known as the lime tree (unrelated to citrus limes), is a deciduous tree with heart-shaped leaves and fragrant yellowish flowers. It produces small, round, nut-like fruits, though they are not commonly consumed. The flowers are often used in herbal teas.

Habitat

Common in UK parks, woodlands, and along roadsides. Thrives in well-drained soil and prefers full sun to partial shade. Often found in urban and rural areas alike.

Hazards & care

While generally safe, the small fruits are not widely eaten and can cause minor digestive issues if consumed in large quantities. Falling fruits can also create a slipping hazard.
