A robust, pale buff to apricot waxcap with a dry, smooth cap and thick, waxy gills. One of the more common waxcaps but strongly associated with unimproved old grasslands, which are of high conservation importance. Considered edible.
Old, unimproved grasslands and meadows; also pastures. Grows in nutrient-poor, unimproved soils. Sensitive to habitat loss.
No toxins, but conservation concern means it should not be collected in sensitive sites.
