Lycium
A deciduous shrub known for its bright red, nutrient-rich berries. Goji berries have a sweet-tart flavour and are often consumed dried, in teas, or as juice. They are packed with antioxidants and have been used in traditional medicine.
Grows well in the UK in sunny, well-drained locations such as hedgerows, gardens, and allotments. Tolerates poor soil and drought.
Unripe berries can be mildly toxic if consumed in large quantities. The plant has thorny branches, making harvesting tricky.
