What's new in 0.2.25: rebuilt map filters

This release is mostly about the map. Finding a spot on it has always been easier than finding the right spot on it, so we’ve rebuilt the filters around the two questions people actually ask: what’s worth picking, and has anyone been here recently.

Season filters you can combine

Season is now a set of chips you can select together rather than a single choice:

• In season — forageable right now
• Ending soon — the window is closing
• Coming up — not yet, but not far off

That last one is the useful addition. You can now look a month ahead instead of only at today, which makes it much easier to plan a walk around what’s about to arrive rather than what’s already here.

The old Types filter and the All / Ready now control have gone, replaced by the chips above.

A recency slider

There’s a new slider to hide pins nobody has touched in a while — 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, 5 years, or Any. A hedgerow that last saw a forager in 2019 may well still be there, but it’s not the same kind of tip-off as one somebody visited last month.

This pairs with a fix underneath it. Until now, a log from 2023 with an observation added in 2025 still looked three years stale, because observations didn’t touch the log’s own date. Observations now keep their parent log fresh, so the slider reflects the last time anyone actually saw something there rather than when the pin was first dropped. Historical logs have been backfilled, so this applies to everything already on the map, not just new finds.

Try Coming up with the slider at a year. It’s a quick way to spot places worth a scouting trip before the season properly starts.

You’ll hear when someone adds an observation

Log a find and you’ll now be told when another forager adds an observation to it. If you’re in the app you’ll get a toast; otherwise, tapping the notification takes you straight to the log.

Also in this release

• The in season now chip looked slightly different on nearly every screen, and different again on the website. It’s one consistent chip everywhere now.
• Field guide cards on a forage show the abbreviated botanical name.
• Blank map tiles now retry instead of staying blank, the tile cache no longer bloats, and the season chips are announced properly by screen readers.
